Anurag Kashyap is a master story teller and his biggest strength lies in the characters he creates. Faizal Khan, Ramadhir Singh, Perpendicular, Ramanna are some of the iconic characters created by the master craftsman. They always standout and are recreated by the public in their lives.
Mukkabaaz presents a love story and the fight of Shravan (Vineet Kumar Singh) to win the hand of his ladylove from her uncle who happens to be a local don in the town of Bareilly. He will have to not only punch hard but repeatedly and above his weight. Bhagwan Das (Jimmy Shergill) doesn’t want any of that, in fact he is hell bent on stopping Sharavan from competing in any district or national competitions. Alas poor Shravan needs to become a boxer to have any chance at getting his girl.
Jimmy Shergil is looking menacing- he does villainous roles very well but it is Vineet who dazzles throughout the video. This movie has a “Rocky” feel to it, with Vineet who wrote the story about a small town boxer also wanted to be the main protagonist but was rejected by a lot of producers before finally picked up by Anurag Kashyap. He could be the next big find of Anurag Kashyap.
To prepare for the role Vineet took intense boxing training for one year and there are no boxing choreographers and action directors. The Heroine of the film is played by theatre actress zoya Hussein and to prepare for her role as a mute she spent several months learning non verbal language and mannerisms.
Music is by a newcomer Rachita Arora and there is a song by Nucleya too. The movie was released in Mami Film Festival where it received a standing ovation. You need to wait to see how this small town boxer fares in big screen as it gets released on 12th Jan 2018 (tomorrow). Till then enjoy this trailer.
